A Rombout firefighter, John Lucariello, is in the hospital after collapsing at a fire scene on Mountain View Road in Fishkill on Tuesday morning (August 11). A Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff found Lucariello unconscious at approximately 5:30 a.m. and quickly arranged for his transport to Montefiore SLC Hospital in Newburgh. A Fishkill police officer accompanied Lucariello in the ambulance, assisting with life-saving efforts.
The fire, which is not considered suspicious, drew a response from the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response to support the Rombout firefighters. Lucariello, a well-known firefighter and town employee, is receiving medical care, but further details on his condition have not been released.
This incident highlights the risks firefighters face in the line of duty. The community is rallying around Lucariello, hoping for his swift recovery.
