A housing lottery is now open for the new Golden Hill Apartments in Kingston. The complex, developed by Pennrose and Family of Woodstock, offers 164 affordable units available to households earning between 30% and 80% of the area's median income. Nearly half of these units are reserved for seniors aged 62 and older.

The Golden Hill Apartments, located on a 20-acre site that once housed the Ulster County Jail, features a range of amenities including a community center, fitness center, childcare, and a community garden. The development emphasizes sustainability, with all-electric buildings and rooftop solar panels generating renewable energy. Residents will also have access to free broadband internet and supportive services provided by Family of Woodstock.

Applications for the lottery are being accepted online, with a deadline of October 7. Those preferring a paper application can download a PDF and submit it via email, fax, or mail. The lottery is scheduled for October 21 at 10 a.m. and will be followed by an application and interview process.

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger expressed excitement about the project, describing it as a "deeply affordable, climate-responsible development" that addresses the urgent need for affordable housing in the area. The project received over $87 million in financing through federal and state tax credit programs, generating significant equity and housing bonds.
