An e-bike rider was airlifted to Albany Medical Center after a collision with a pickup truck in Hudson on Tuesday (August 12). The accident occurred at the intersection of North First Street and Warren Street. According to Hudson police, the pickup truck had already stopped at the intersection when the e-bike collided with it. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a severe head injury and was unconscious at the scene but regained semi-consciousness when emergency medical services arrived.

The Hudson Police Department is using this incident to remind both drivers and e-bike riders to exercise caution on the roads. They emphasized the importance of wearing helmets, obeying traffic signals, and riding responsibly, especially given the increased risk of serious injury in crashes. In New York State, e-bikes are categorized into three classes, and riders under 16 are prohibited from operating them.

The accident has sparked discussions about the growing concern over e-bike safety in the city. Some residents have expressed frustration over e-bike and scooter riders ignoring traffic laws and riding on sidewalks, posing risks to pedestrians. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and police are urging all road users to prioritize safety to prevent similar incidents.
