A 17-year-old boy is recovering after being shot during a house party in Newburgh. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning (August 12) at a residence on Carter Avenue. The teenager, who was shot in the stomach, was taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and is currently in stable condition.
Newburgh Town Police responded to reports of shots fired at the party, which had about 50 attendees. Many guests had already left by the time officers arrived. Shortly after, the injured teen arrived at the hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, authorities arrested 18-year-old Keiyi Bascus from New Windsor on unrelated charges, including three counts of burglary and attempted grand larceny. The police, assisted by the New York State Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, continue to investigate the shooting.
