Brian Bailey has officially started his role as the interim superintendent of the Hudson City School District. He began on Monday (August 11) with a one-year contract. Bailey, who has over 30 years of experience in education, takes over from Juliette Pennyman, who stepped down by mutual agreement with the Board of Education.

During her tenure, Pennyman faced some controversies, including an online petition calling for her resignation due to alleged issues with her leadership style. Despite these challenges, the district saw an increase in graduation rates under her leadership. The Board of Education expressed appreciation for her dedication and leadership during her time in the district.

Bailey, who recently retired as superintendent of the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District, holds degrees in music education and educational leadership. He is known for his student-centered approach and aims to build strong communities and supportive learning environments in Hudson. "Change is sometimes difficult," Bailey said, "but the famous saying is that, you know, you never get to something that is really transformational unless you happen to experience some change."

The Hudson City School District will continue its search for a permanent superintendent while Bailey serves in the interim role. Bailey is optimistic about his time in Hudson and plans to focus on building positive relationships within the school community. He expressed appreciation for the community's pride in their schools and looks forward to contributing to the district's success.
