Wappinger Town Supervisor Joseph Cavaccini announced improvements to the Chelsea Boat Ramp, enhancing access to the Hudson River for boaters. The town removed an old asphalt ramp deemed unsafe and replaced it with a new ramp extending further into the river. A new dock is also planned, allowing for better access for kayakers and boaters. The town allocated $198,000 for the project, which has been discussed for a decade.
The project includes a public-private partnership with the Chelsea Yacht Club, which replaced the old seawall and allowed the town to anchor the existing dock to it. The future dock will also anchor to the seawall, providing more space and accessibility. Cavaccini encourages paddlers to use the new Wappinger Greenway Water Trail, connecting the Chelsea Boat Ramp with the Wappinger Creek Kayak Launch.
The improvements are part of a broader effort to enhance community amenities and infrastructure. Cavaccini emphasized the importance of these projects in fostering community spirit and providing recreational opportunities. The town is also working on other initiatives, such as the Walk of Heroes at Brexel-Schlathaus Park and the 2025 Summer Concert Series, to bring residents together and celebrate the community's rich history and culture.
