Authorities in Hudson are still investigating the cause of a weekend fire that severely damaged multiple buildings, including the Wunderbar Bistro on Warren Street. The fire, which started early Saturday morning (August 23), quickly spread to two adjacent buildings at 742 and 746 Warren Street, causing significant damage.
According to Times Union, firefighters from at least eight different departments responded to the scene. Hudson Fire Chief Shawn Hoffman reported that the fire was under control within an hour, but the structures suffered extensive damage. The buildings have been condemned but are considered salvageable.
During the incident, a firefighter briefly went missing due to a floor collapse but was found uninjured by the FAST team. The City of Hudson Fire Department confirmed that no injuries were reported among residents or pets, although a cat was treated for minor smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but officials have ruled out foul play. Hudson police and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control are leading the investigation. Hudson Mayor Kamal Johnson praised the quick response of the fire crews, stating, "This morning’s fire was one of the worst I’ve personally witnessed, and the bravery and dedication shown by everyone on the scene is something I truly respect."
The American Red Cross has provided assistance to displaced tenants, offering financial help, blankets, and comfort kits. As the investigation continues, the community awaits answers on what sparked the blaze.
