Three airports in New York's Hudson Valley have received federal funding to enhance their facilities and equipment. Westchester County Airport will receive over $15 million, with $13 million allocated for runway expansion and $2.7 million for taxiway and runway construction. Joseph Y Resnick Airport in Ellenville is set to receive over $137,000 for runway renovations, while Kingston-Ulster Airport will receive more than $92,000 for initial pavement surveying and the development of a pavement management plan.
According to Mid Hudson News, the funding is part of a larger $66.7 million package awarded to 22 airports across New York State through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program and Airport Infrastructure Grant Program.
Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grants, highlighting the importance of these upgrades for enhancing safety and improving the passenger experience. Senator Schumer emphasized the role of airports as gateways for commerce and tourism, stating, "This $66+ million in federal funding will help our airports invest in key safety upgrades and modernization efforts." Senator Gillibrand echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in securing the funding to ensure New York's airports can provide a safe and reliable passenger experience.
The funding aims to bolster infrastructure and support local economies by enhancing airport operations across the state.
