In Catskill, New York, Democrat Thomas Boomhower is set to run uncontested in a special election for a seat on the Catskill Village Board of Trustees. The election, scheduled for Tuesday (September 2), will fill the vacancy left by Jeff Workman, who resigned in June due to increased job demands. If elected, Boomhower will serve the remainder of Workman's term until March 2027.

Boomhower, 29, grew up in Athens and moved to Catskill in 2019. He holds a Master of Arts degree in history from the University at Albany, SUNY, and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Russell Sage College. His career in public service was inspired by his mother, who worked in the field. Boomhower currently serves as the senior director of program management at the Upstate Capital Association of New York and has experience in economic development.

Boomhower's campaign focuses on addressing housing shortages and enhancing youth programs in the village. He also aims to improve government transparency by implementing an email alert system for residents. Board President Natasha Law expressed enthusiasm for Boomhower's potential contributions, highlighting his economic development experience.

Polling stations will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Catskill Fire House. The board, currently operating with four members, anticipates that Boomhower's addition will bring diverse perspectives and aid in decision-making for upcoming resolutions, including those related to the Hudson Valley Power Authority and the Rent Emergency Stabilization Act.
