The Beacon Police Department has been accredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Accreditation Council for the fourth time. This achievement highlights the department's commitment to maintaining high standards in law enforcement. The Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Program is voluntary and aims to enhance an agency's effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism. It also promotes training and fosters public confidence in law enforcement.

To earn accreditation, agencies must meet standards in three categories: Administration, Training, and Operations. Accreditation signifies that an agency meets or exceeds quality expectations and has formalized policies in place for operational practices. It also shows that employees are well-informed about their roles and responsibilities. Agencies undergo accreditation or reaccreditation every five years.

The process for Beacon PD's reaccreditation began earlier this year with a thorough review of policies by program assessors. This was followed by a three-day on-site inspection, where assessors reviewed policies, inspected facilities, and interviewed department members. Beacon PD was first accredited in 2010 and was the third agency in Dutchess County to achieve this status.

The accreditation provides formal recognition of the department's professional performance and adherence to best practices in law enforcement. For more information, visit Mid Hudson News.
