A man from Patterson was arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop on Saturday morning (September 13). The incident began when the officer pulled the man over for speeding. During the stop, the officer attempted to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol. As the situation unfolded, the man's vehicle rolled backwards into the police car. When the officer tried to arrest him, the man reportedly attacked the officer, leading to a physical altercation.
The suspect was later taken into custody at his home and is currently held at the Putnam County Jail. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to maintain road safety and handle incidents involving potential impaired driving.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office, led by Acting Sheriff Brian Hess, continues to focus on reducing impaired driving incidents through initiatives like the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, especially during busy travel periods like Labor Day and the Fourth of July.
