The Town of Ulster's building department recently conducted an inspection of the Kingston Motel, located on Forest Hill Drive. This inspection follows numerous complaints about the motel's conditions, which include insect infestations, dirty bedding, and moldy rooms. The facility primarily serves as housing for homeless adults and children placed there by the Ulster County Department of Social Services.

Town Supervisor Jim Quigley initiated the inspection after local media reported the complaints. He directed Building Inspector William Tutt to carry out an "intensive inspection" of the motel, formerly known as the Skytop Motel and the Rodeway Inn. Quigley emphasized the motel's role as the "number one call generator" for local police, who are overwhelmed by the volume of calls related to the facility.

The motel's management is responsible for maintaining the property, and a certificate of occupancy and operating permit are required to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Ulster County Deputy County Executive James Amenta stated that the county is in regular contact with clients living in emergency housing to address any concerns.

The inspection report is expected to be released in a few weeks, providing further insight into the motel's compliance with health and safety standards.
