The Banjo Bridge, also known as Ulster County Bridge #16, is undergoing a full replacement project, leading to its closure starting Tuesday (September 23). Located on Dug Road in the Town of Rochester, the bridge spans Rochester Creek and sits about one-third of a mile south of the intersection with Sundale Road. The Ulster County Department of Public Works (DPW) is overseeing the project, which is expected to be completed by late fall 2025 and has an estimated cost of $280,000.
During the construction period, the bridge will be closed to all through traffic. Commuters are advised to use a designated detour route, which includes traveling southwest on Sundale Road for 0.6 miles, then south on Queens Highway for 4.5 miles, east on State Route 209 for 0.8 miles, and finally north on Mettacahonts Road for 3.8 miles.
The Ulster County DPW appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this infrastructure improvement project. For more information, residents can visit the Ulster County website or contact the DPW directly.
According to Mid Hudson News, the project involves a complete replacement above the bridge's abutments. The bridge closure aims to ensure safety and improve the infrastructure for future use.
