Metro North is introducing new high-speed trains on the Hudson Line, reducing travel time between Poughkeepsie and New York City's Grand Central Terminal to under 90 minutes. These "super-express" trains will start running on Sunday (October 5), cutting commute times by up to 20 minutes for regular services and seven minutes for express trains.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the new trains will save commuters nearly 15 minutes each way, adding up to over an hour saved per week. The trains are part of a broader $11 billion upgrade to the Metro North fleet, funded by the Federal Transit Administration. The new Siemens Charger locomotives, which began service earlier this week, are designed to operate in electric mode between Croton-Harmon and Grand Central, reducing emissions by 85% and improving reliability.

Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek emphasized the long-term investment in faster and cleaner service with these American-made locomotives. In addition to the new weekday services, the MTA plans to add extra weekend "leaf peeper" trains to accommodate autumn tourists in the Hudson Valley.

More details about the new trains are available from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
