A ceremonial groundbreaking takes place today in Catskill, marking the start of construction for a new surgical center in Greene County. The center will be an addition to Greene Medical Arts, part of a joint effort by Columbia Memorial Health and the Albany Med Health System to enhance healthcare services in the area.

The new ambulatory surgical center will feature four operating rooms and two procedure rooms, designed for outpatient surgeries where patients can return home the same day. The facility will offer a range of services, including cardiovascular, orthopedic, gastroenterology, gynecology, and ophthalmology procedures.

Columbia Memorial Health CEO Dorothy Urschel stated that a Certification of Need has been submitted to the state, and construction will commence upon approval. The center is expected to open in late 2026, creating approximately 40 jobs in the Catskill area.

The addition of this surgical center aims to provide more convenient healthcare options for Greene County residents, expanding on the existing services offered by Greene Medical Arts, such as primary care, cardiology, and mental health services. The expansion will also enhance cardiac care, including cardiac imagery.
