A 72-year-old school crossing guard was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle near Smith School in Poughkeepsie on Monday (September 29) morning. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Baker and Quaker Streets, according to Poughkeepsie Police Chief Rich Wilson. Emergency services, including fire, police, and EMS personnel, quickly arrived at the scene to provide life-saving measures before transporting the injured man to a hospital for further treatment.
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The Poughkeepsie school district has arranged for counselors to support students and staff who may have witnessed the accident.
