Garnet Health has announced its intention to affiliate with Montefiore Health System, a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the region. The decision follows two challenging years for Garnet Health, marked by economic pressures and healthcare delivery changes. Jonathan Schiller, President and CEO of Garnet Health, emphasized that the affiliation will help protect and enhance the high-quality care that the community relies on.

Garnet Health, headquartered in Middletown, serves over 500,000 residents across Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. It employs more than 4,000 professionals and has a network of over 850 medical staff members. The affiliation is expected to bring expanded resources and clinical capabilities, while maintaining Garnet Health's community-focused care.

Montefiore Health System, known for its academic medical expertise, operates 10 hospitals across the Bronx, Westchester, and the Hudson Valley. Dr. Phillip Ozuah, President and CEO of Montefiore Einstein, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Garnet Health into the Montefiore family, highlighting their shared commitment to local healthcare access and clinical excellence.

The two organizations plan to finalize agreements by the end of 2025, with regulatory approvals to follow. Despite financial challenges faced by both systems, the partnership aims to create a sustainable healthcare network for the region. According to Marcy Manheim, Garnet Health’s Administrator of Marketing & Corporate Communications, there will be no impact on staff or services.
