Catskill Man Arrested for Cocaine Possession

A traffic stop on Main Street in Catskill led to the arrest of 41-year-old Jonathan Alcantara earlier this week. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office conducted the stop and identified Alcantara as a backseat passenger. During the interview, Alcantara attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by deputies. In the process, he dropped a bag containing white pills.

Upon searching, deputies discovered Alcantara was in possession of over 65 grams of cocaine. He now faces multiple charges, including two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class B felonies, with one count involving intent to sell. Additionally, he is charged with tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, and a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Alcantara was arraigned in the Town of Coxsackie Court and is currently held in the Greene County Jail without bail. The Greene County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation. According to NEWS10 ABC, Alcantara's charges also include seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
