Tomorrow, Hudson Valley residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of their unwanted medications as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., individuals can drop off their unused prescriptions at designated police stations and other collection sites across the region. This initiative aims to provide a secure and responsible way to dispose of medications while educating the public about the potential for drug abuse.
Residents should note that these collection sites will not accept syringes, liquids, or needles. To locate a nearby drop-off site, individuals can visit the DEA's official website and search by zip code or city.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) organizes this event to prevent unused prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands, which can lead to dangerous and tragic situations. According to the DEA, previous Take Back Days have successfully collected significant amounts of medications, preventing potential misuse.
In addition to the annual event, the DEA provides year-round disposal options through authorized collectors. For more information on safe disposal practices and to find year-round locations, visit the DEA Diversion Control Division website.
