Kingston native Zack Short is hopeful about continuing his Major League Baseball career in 2026. The former Kingston High School star is currently a free agent after spending part of the year with the Houston Astros. In his 22 games with the Astros, Short posted a batting average of .220, hit two home runs, and collected seven RBIs.

Short's professional journey has seen him play with several MLB organizations, including the Mets, Red Sox, and Braves. Earlier this year, he began the season with the Mets, appearing in 10 games before being traded to the Red Sox and then to the Braves, where he had his most extensive playing time. While with the Braves, he played in 30 games, making 17 starts.

Throughout his career, Short has shown versatility, playing multiple positions and even making pitching appearances. His time with the Detroit Tigers was notable, where he played in 112 games and hit seven home runs. Short's journey in baseball began with the Chicago Cubs organization before he was traded to the Tigers in 2020.

Now a free agent, Short believes he could sign with a team but is waiting for the right opportunity. As he considers his next move, Short remains optimistic about his prospects in the league.
