Voters in Poughkeepsie and across the Hudson Valley are heading to the polls today (November 4) to participate in a range of local elections. Polls opened at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 9 p.m. Key positions up for election include Dutchess County comptroller, Dutchess County Legislature seats, and a Dutchess County Court judge position.
The race for Dutchess County comptroller features incumbent Democrat and Working Families candidate Dan Aymar-Blair against Republican and Conservative candidate Will Truitt. In the county legislature, 14 out of 25 districts have contested races. Voters will also decide between incumbent Republican and Conservative Ned McLoughlin and Democratic and Working Families candidate Kara Gerry for the position of Dutchess County Court judge.
For those unsure of their polling location, the New York State Board of Elections provides a lookup tool requiring a voter's full name, date of birth, zip code, and county. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, early voting took place from October 25 to November 2, with seven sites available in Dutchess County.
Voters are encouraged to check their polling places, as some locations have changed. The Dutchess County Board of Elections allows voters to cast their ballots at any poll site within their town or city.
The Times Union provides a comprehensive voter guide covering the Hudson Valley, offering nonpartisan information on candidates and ballot measures. Results of contested races will be tracked in real-time after polls close, though counting all votes may take several hours or days.
