An investigation is ongoing after authorities discovered a body in Catskill Creek on Sunday (November 2). Troopers from the New York State Police Coxsackie barracks responded to a report of a body floating in the creek at approximately 11:29 a.m. Upon arrival, they recovered the remains of an unidentified male from the water. The investigation is being conducted by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Catskill and the Troop F Forensic Identification Unit.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office and the Catskill Village Police Department are assisting in the investigation. As of now, the cause of death remains unclear, and authorities are waiting for autopsy results to determine if foul play was involved.
On Tuesday (November 4), police identified the man as 32-year-old McKinley Smith of Catskill, according to Times Union. More information will be released as it becomes available.
