The Town of Poughkeepsie has been awarded a $27,500 grant from the Greenway Conservancy Trail Program of the Hudson River Valley Greenway. This funding is earmarked for the design phase of a new woodland trail at Sunnyside Park. The proposed trail will traverse town-owned woods and wetlands adjacent to the park, offering residents a safe and scenic route for walking their dogs and enjoying the natural surroundings.

The trail will connect to Malmros Terrace, enabling more residents to access the park on foot instead of driving on Vassar Road. Town Supervisor Rebecca Edwards expressed gratitude for the grant, stating, "Thanks to the Hudson River Valley Greenway, we can begin a long-term process of expanding park amenities, giving residents access to more green space, and restoring wetland habitat" (Mid Hudson News).

This initiative aims to revitalize a long-neglected parcel of land, enhancing the community's recreational options and environmental conservation efforts. The grant marks a significant step in improving local infrastructure and public amenities, aligning with broader community development goals in the area.
