The race for mayor in Hudson remains unresolved as absentee ballots are yet to be counted. Democrat Joseph Ferris declared victory after Tuesday's (November 4) election, but incumbent Mayor Kamal Johnson has not conceded. The two candidates are separated by fewer than 60 votes, with Ferris leading by 2.97%, according to unofficial results.
Ferris, who moved to Hudson in 2022, received 49% of the vote, while Johnson, running on the Working Families Party line, garnered 46%. Republican candidate Lloyd Koedding finished third with 3.5%. The Columbia County Board of Elections has yet to certify the results, and the number of outstanding absentee ballots is unclear. Ballots must be postmarked by November 4 and received by November 12.
Ferris expressed confidence in the results, stating, "I'm feeling confident and looking forward to the board of elections certifying the results." Meanwhile, Johnson acknowledged the slim margin but raised questions about the election process, stating, "There are still some things about this election to question, and hopefully we’ll get those answers soon."
The election followed a contentious campaign, with Ferris criticizing Johnson's record and Johnson questioning Ferris's recent move to Hudson. Ferris emphasized his focus on communication and attention to detail in city governance. As the final results await certification, both candidates remain hopeful for their respective outcomes.
