Starting tonight (November 17), overnight lane closures will occur on the New York State Thruway between New Paltz and Newburgh. The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that the left lane in both northbound and southbound directions will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday (November 20) just north of Exit 17. These closures are part of the ongoing $7.8 million project to replace the Meadow Hill Road Bridge.
During these hours, state police will stop traffic multiple times after 11 p.m. to allow contractors to safely set up 14 steel girder sections, which range from 86 to 120 feet long. Each traffic stop is expected to last no more than 20 minutes, according to Daily Freeman. The work is weather-dependent, with Friday (November 21) as a scheduled rain date.
The Meadow Hill Road Bridge, located at milepost 60.95, is being replaced by a modern structure to improve safety and reduce the chance of bridge hits. The new bridge will feature an 11-foot-wide travel lane in each direction, a 6-foot-wide shoulder on the south side, and a 5-foot-wide shoulder with a sidewalk on the north side. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2026.
Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes and be prepared for delays. The Thruway Authority urges drivers to remain alert and adhere to the posted speed limits in work zones.
