Two New York State troopers were injured on Monday evening (November 17) during a traffic stop on State Route 23 in Cairo. The incident occurred around 5:25 p.m. when a vehicle struck the troopers' patrol car while they were standing outside a stopped vehicle. Both troopers, who are assigned to the State Police's Catskill barracks, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. They were later released, according to Times Union.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the patrol car was identified as 69-year-old Sharon L. Torres, a resident of Cairo. Tragically, Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of her death is currently unknown, and the incident remains under active investigation by the State Police, as reported by Yahoo News.

The crash led to the closure of the westbound lanes between Ross Ruland Road and Silver Spur Road. Authorities are seeking any witnesses to the crash and have requested that they contact the State Police at SP Middletown. As the investigation continues, no additional details have been released at this time, according to CNY News.
