A Greene County jury has found Jeffrey Field guilty of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and felony assault following a trial in Catskill. Field, 37, was convicted for the fatal stabbing of Adam White and the attempted murder of Christopher Gere on August 22, 2021. The jury reached their decision after nearly three days of deliberations at the Greene County Courthouse.
The attack occurred at a home on Summit Avenue in Catskill, where White died from stab wounds to his heart and spleen. Gere, who survived his injuries, testified during the trial. According to Times Union, Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione remarked, "Field has proven to be a vicious, evil person who has no regard for human life." Stanzione also noted that Field showed "absolutely no remorse" for his actions.
Following the stabbings, Field fled to Saratoga County, where he allegedly broke into a home, attacked the homeowner, and attempted to steal a vehicle. The situation escalated into a chase, during which a state trooper fired a shot at Field after he allegedly drove towards the officer. Field eventually crashed and was arrested while hospitalized.
The prosecution plans to seek a life sentence for Field. CBS 6 Albany reported that the trial was presided over by visiting state Supreme Court Justice Meagan Galligan due to previous involvement of Greene County judges with Field's earlier cases.
Field's sentencing will be scheduled at a later date, with prosecutors advocating for a life sentence due to the severity of his crimes. WNYT noted that the incident began when Field was misled by a woman, leading him to target the wrong individuals.
