The spread of the flu is worsening in the Hudson Valley region, with new data showing a significant increase in cases. For the week ending November 15, Westchester County reported the highest number of infections with 261 cases, followed by Orange County with 127, and Rockland County with 86. Health experts are warning that the flu season could intensify during and after the holiday season as people gather for celebrations.

The New York State Department of Health reported an 80% increase in flu cases across the state during the week of November 8. State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald emphasized the importance of vaccinations against flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as preventive measures. "Flu, COVID, and RSV are vaccine-preventable diseases, and these vaccines are the best protection against serious illness or death," Dr. McDonald stated.

Health officials are particularly concerned about the potential for increased transmission during the Thanksgiving holiday. Experts recommend practicing good hygiene and getting vaccinated to protect against these respiratory illnesses. The 2025 flu season in Australia, which was the worst on record, is being used as a predictor for the severity of the flu season in the United States.

Vaccines are widely available at pharmacies, health clinics, and medical offices across New York State. To find a flu shot clinic in your community, visit vaccines.gov.
