New information has surfaced regarding the murder of Roger Pitt, a 69-year-old man from Cairo. Autopsy results revealed that Pitt died from sharp force trauma to the neck. His body was discovered on his property after law enforcement executed a search warrant last week.
The investigation began on November 18 when Pitt was reported missing. Initially, family members claimed he had packed his belongings and left in his 1987 Mercedes-Benz. However, inconsistencies in their statements led authorities to suspect foul play. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation on November 24, conducting several searches that eventually led to the discovery of Pitt's remains.
Three individuals have been charged in connection with the murder: Rodney Pitt, 46, who is Roger Pitt’s son; Tania Pitt, 43, Rodney’s wife; and Drew White, 23, the boyfriend of Rodney and Tania’s daughter. Rodney Pitt and Drew White face charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse. Tania Pitt is charged with conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence. Rodney Pitt and Drew White are being held without bail, while Tania Pitt has been released and will appear in court later.
According to the Times Union, Sheriff Peter Kusminsky suggested that financial disagreements might be a potential motive. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at 518-943-3300.
