Pedestrian Killed in Newburgh Accident

A tragic accident occurred early Monday (December 8) in Newburgh when a 57-year-old man named Juan Vazquez was struck and killed by a motorist. The incident took place at approximately 3:12 a.m. near 364 South Street. Vazquez was transported by Empress EMS to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

City detectives have interviewed the driver involved in the accident, but no charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the accident.

According to Mid Hudson News, Newburgh police, along with the New York State Police, are conducting a thorough investigation, which includes reconstructing the accident scene.

As the community mourns the loss of Vazquez, the police have not released any further information about the driver or potential charges. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
