An Athens man, George Chrisomalis, has been arrested following a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Greene County. On Tuesday (December 9), deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Office, along with the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, executed a search warrant at Chrisomalis's property on Lime Kiln Road. They discovered dozens of animals living in deplorable conditions.

According to CBS6 Albany, authorities removed 18 dogs, six cows, 12 goats, several cats, and dozens of fowl from the property. The animals were reportedly underweight and living in squalid conditions. The Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society and the New York State Humane Association assisted in the removal of the animals.

Chrisomalis faces multiple charges of cruelty to animals under the Agriculture and Markets Law. He was issued an appearance ticket and is expected to appear in Athens Town Court at a later date, as reported by News10 ABC.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of animal welfare and the need for vigilance in reporting suspected cases of neglect or abuse. The investigation was prompted by requests for a welfare check on the animals at the residence, highlighting the role of community involvement in addressing animal cruelty.
