The United States House of Representatives has approved a bill to rename the post office in Holmes after former Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian "Butch" Anderson. Congressman Mike Lawler introduced the legislation, which designates the facility at 298 Route 292 as the "Sheriff Adrian 'Butch' Anderson Post Office Building."
Sheriff Anderson served Dutchess County for over fifty years, starting as a Deputy Sheriff in 1970 and becoming the county sheriff in 1999. He held the position until his passing in 2021. Known for his dedication, courage, and integrity, Anderson also served as the Mayor of Pawling for eight years. Congressman Lawler emphasized Anderson's lifelong commitment to public service, saying, "Sheriff Anderson lived a life marked by courage, integrity, and a genuine concern for the people he served."
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. If passed, it will go to President Trump's desk for final approval. The renaming of the post office honors Anderson's legacy and the impact he had on his community.
