Three individuals have been indicted in connection with the murder of Roger Pitt, a 69-year-old man from Cairo. According to authorities, Roger Pitt was reported missing by his son, Rodney Pitt, on November 18. His body was discovered on November 26 on his property on Old State Route 145. The Greene County District Attorney's Office announced the indictments on Wednesday (December 10).
Rodney Pitt, 46, and his daughter's boyfriend, Drew White, 23, face charges of second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse. Rodney Pitt's wife, Tania Pitt, 43, is charged with tampering with physical evidence and sixth-degree conspiracy. The investigation revealed that Roger Pitt died from sharp force trauma to the neck, inflicted with a box cutter-type knife between October 16 and October 18.
Authorities allege that the three defendants attempted to cover up the crime by cleaning up the blood, burying Roger Pitt's body, and disposing of his car at a scrapyard. They also reportedly destroyed identification documents and hid the car's license plates in a wall. The motive for the murder is suspected to be financial.
All three suspects have pleaded not guilty. Rodney Pitt and Drew White are being held at the Greene County Jail, while Tania Pitt has been released pending further court proceedings. The Greene County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the State Police and the District Attorney's Office, continues to investigate the case. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the sheriff's office at 518-943-3300.
