The Mid-Hudson Valley area will benefit from a share of $67 million in funding as part of the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (NY SWIMS) initiative. This program provides matching grants to help communities build and improve swimming facilities, offering New Yorkers safe and modern places to swim.

According to Governor Kathy Hochul, the NY SWIMS initiative is part of the broader 'Unplug and Play' program, which encourages families to stay active and enjoy the outdoors. The Village of Kiryas Joel will receive $6.5 million to construct a new aquatic complex at Kinder Park. Meanwhile, the Town of Cornwall is set to receive over $5 million to replace its existing pool with a larger facility and new bathhouse.

The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) administers the NY SWIMS program, which has awarded $200 million through two rounds of funding to support 57 projects across New York State. These projects aim to modernize or build aquatic facilities, including pools, bathhouses, and accessibility upgrades, to improve water safety and provide year-round recreational opportunities.
