A fire broke out on the western end of Old Hopewell Road in Wappinger on Sunday (January 4), displacing several residents. The blaze, which began just after noon, prompted the closure of the road to vehicular traffic as firefighters from multiple agencies worked to control the flames. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during the incident.
Emergency personnel initially responded to an automatic smoke and fire alarm, and upon arrival, they observed smoke rising from the roof of a Cape Cod-style home. Additional equipment and personnel were quickly requested to the scene. By 1:30 p.m., firefighters had managed to knock down most of the flames.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the residents or the firefighters. The Red Cross provided financial assistance to the displaced residents, including three children aged seven, eleven, and twelve, according to Mid Hudson News.
