Investigation Continues Into Rhinebeck Crash

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of a fatal crash that occurred on Friday (January 2) in Rhinebeck. The crash involved a head-on collision on Route 9G near the Route 308 interchange. Nineteen-year-old Jonathan Aguirre from Kingston was identified as the victim who died from his injuries.

According to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Aguirre was driving a Nissan Sentra northbound when he crossed over the center line and collided with a Subaru sedan. The driver of the Subaru attempted to avoid the crash but was unsuccessful. The occupants of the Subaru were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson stated that no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff's Office’s Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit. The New York State Police and the Rhinebeck Fire Department assisted at the scene. Authorities are urging witnesses to contact the sheriff's department to aid in the investigation.
