On Monday afternoon (January 5), a lone robber held up the Rhinebeck Savings Bank at 456 Broadway in Newburgh. According to Mid Hudson News, the suspect claimed to have a weapon, although none was seen, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The bank's panic alarm alerted police, who found the front door locked upon arrival.
The suspect was last seen fleeing east on Broadway. The Newburgh Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from Orange County Sheriff's deputies and State Police. Authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect.
This incident marks another bank robbery in Newburgh, following a similar event at Citizen's Bank on Broadway in December. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Newburgh Police Department.
