Andre Smith, a 39-year-old from Poughkeepsie, was sentenced to 15 years in state prison on Tuesday (January 6) for his role in a large-scale drug and firearms trafficking operation in Orange County. The sentence, handed down in Orange County Court, includes five years of post-release supervision following Smith's guilty plea to criminal sale of a firearm in the first degree.

The investigation, known as "Operation Hot Lunch," involved multiple law enforcement agencies and targeted illegal firearms and narcotics trafficking in the region. The operation revealed that firearms were being sold from a food truck parked in front of the Newburgh City Courthouse. Over the course of the six-month investigation, authorities recovered 31 firearms, high-capacity magazines, over 12 kilograms of cocaine, 90 grams of fentanyl, $45,000 in cash, and other materials related to drug trafficking.

According to Mid Hudson News, Smith admitted to selling three or more firearms between April 28 and May 8, 2024. The operation led to charges against 33 individuals, including Smith, for various narcotics, firearm, and conspiracy offenses.

District Attorney David Hoovler praised the collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. He emphasized the importance of dismantling sophisticated criminal organizations that pose significant threats to community safety. Special Agent in Charge of the ATF New York Field Division, Bryan DiGirolamo, highlighted the critical role of sustained investigative efforts in curbing the flow of illegal firearms and enhancing public safety.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Alexis Gregory, with the successful outcome reflecting the dedication of the police and prosecutors involved. The operation underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to hold accountable those responsible for trafficking guns and drugs in the community.
