New Paltz, New York, is extending its search for a new mayor, moving the application deadline to January 30. The position became vacant when Tim Rogers stepped down to become town supervisor. Currently, only acting Mayor Alexandria Wojcik and former Planning Board Chair John Litton have shown interest in the role.

Candidates will be interviewed in February, and the chosen individual will serve as mayor for the remainder of the year. The village board plans a public vote in November to fill the final year of the four-year term. According to the Daily Freeman, Wojcik, 41, decided to seek the position despite past controversy over a social media post. She emphasized the importance of addressing village infrastructure needs and developing a consolidation plan with the town.

Litton, 68, also prioritizes infrastructure and housing. He supports consolidation for economic and efficiency reasons but stresses the need for careful planning to address potential issues.
