Fire at Putnam Nursing Home Quickly Contained

On Monday (January 26), a fire incident at the Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kent led to tense moments as smoke filled a hallway. Staff promptly called 911 at around 9 a.m., reporting a fire in a third-floor patient room. Firefighters, led by Chief Justyn Lewis, arrived swiftly and extinguished the fire, which originated in a ceiling fan.

The nursing home staff efficiently moved residents to a safe wing while emergency crews worked. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The Lake Carmel Fire Department received assistance from the Kent Police Department, Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services, and several local fire departments, including those from Carmel, Brewster, and Patterson. Kent EMS and an Empress Paramedic were also on the scene to provide support.

According to Mid Hudson News, the quick response and coordination among the various emergency services ensured the safety of all residents and staff. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
