Newburgh Man Arrested After 12-Gauge Shotgun Theft in Ellenville

A 20-year-old Newburgh man has been arrested and charged with felony grand larceny after allegedly stealing a 12-gauge shotgun from a residence in Ellenville last month.

Justin Ferman of 406 First Street in Newburgh was taken into custody on Monday (January 28) following a collaborative investigation between the Ellenville Police Department and City of Newburgh Police detectives, according to local authorities.

The investigation began when Ellenville Police received a report of a stolen shotgun from a residence on Tuthill Avenue on Friday (January 16). After identifying Ferman as a suspect, Ellenville Police reached out to the Newburgh Police Department's Detective Division for assistance in locating him.

Detectives found Ferman at approximately 4:30 p.m. on January 28. He was turned over to Ellenville Police officers who transported him back to their department for questioning. During a subsequent search of a residence in Newburgh, authorities recovered the stolen firearm.

Ferman has been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony offense. Following processing, he was issued an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Wawarsing Court on Friday (February 6) at 8:30 a.m.

The case highlights the ongoing cooperation between law enforcement agencies in Orange and Ulster counties to address crimes that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
