A Marlborough man has been sentenced to up to eight years in state prison for sex crimes involving a minor in Dutchess County.

Stephen Alvarez, 42, received his sentence on Wednesday (February 4) after pleading guilty in April 2025 to multiple felony charges. According to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, Alvarez admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a child under 15 years old in Hyde Park in March 2024.

The Ulster County resident was sentenced to five years for second-degree criminal sex act and one to three years for first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, both class D felonies. Court documents show that Alvarez sent coercive sexual text messages to the same victim, describing sexual conduct as invitations for the minor to engage in sexual intercourse.

"This case represents some of the most disturbing and dangerous conduct my office prosecutes," said Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi. "The defendant deliberately targeted and exploited a minor, and today's sentence holds him accountable while protecting the community."

In addition to prison time, Alvarez must register as a sex offender and will serve 10 years of post-release supervision. The case was investigated by the Town of Hyde Park Police Department, with Unit Chief Brittney Kessel leading the prosecution.

The sentencing comes amid another high-profile case in the same county. Tyler LeClerc, a martial arts instructor from Hyde Park, was recently sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to multiple sex crimes involving minors in Dutchess County.

District Attorney Parisi emphasized the serious approach his office takes toward crimes against children, stating, "Let this be clear: predators who harm children will face severe consequences in Dutchess County."
