Newburgh Man Arrested After Threats Prompt Office Evacuation

A 40-year-old Newburgh man, Joseph Jamieson, was arrested after allegedly making threats against staff at the Orange County Social Services office in the City of Newburgh, officials said. The incident occurred at the 3 Washington Center office, leading to an immediate evacuation of the building for safety reasons, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Jamieson was charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat and the misdemeanor of aggravated harassment. He was arraigned and is currently being held at the Orange County Jail. As reported by Mid Hudson News, the sheriff’s office responded quickly once the threats were reported on Monday (February 10).

Sheriff Paul Arteta stated, "Our office takes all threats of violence extremely seriously. We will continue to act swiftly to protect the safety of our residents and ensure that individuals who engage in threatening or harassing behavior are held accountable under the law." He also reminded the public to report any concerning behavior immediately, as noted by the Times Herald-Record.
