The state of New York has awarded over $19 million in grants to support affordable housing projects in Ulster, Dutchess, and Orange counties. These funds aim to address the housing crisis by expanding affordable housing options for families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

In Ulster County, the Stone Creek Commons in the Town of Saugerties will receive $6.3 million. This funding will support the construction of 47 units of affordable and supportive housing, along with a community facility for support services. The project is spearheaded by Rehabilitation Support Services.

Orange County's Town of Crawford will see the construction of 42 units of affordable and supportive housing with the help of a $5.8 million grant. The project is being developed by Access: Supports for Living.

In Dutchess County, $7.2 million has been allocated to the Hallstead Farms project in the Town of LaGrange. This development, led by Parkview Development, will create 72 units of affordable housing.

Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the importance of these investments, stating, "The housing crisis won’t solve itself. That means building more housing in every region and making targeted investments to expand affordable homes for people of all ages and phases of life." The governor's remarks highlight the state's commitment to addressing housing shortages through strategic investments.

These grants are part of a broader initiative to support pro-housing communities across New York. Under the Pro-Housing Communities Program, local governments can access up to $750 million in discretionary state funding to support housing growth. This program aims to create a partnership between the state and localities to tackle housing shortages and align housing development with local economic growth.
