Robert Rolison, a State Senator representing New York's 39th District, convened a committee meeting in Poughkeepsie on Monday (March 2) to address the needs of crime victims and their families. The meeting, held behind closed doors, brought together victims, family members, and law enforcement officials, including sheriffs and district attorneys from the Mid-Hudson district. The goal was to discuss strategies for holding offenders accountable and providing support to victims.

Rolison, a retired police officer and former mayor of Poughkeepsie, emphasized the importance of bipartisan collaboration in tackling issues related to crime victims. Despite the Republican minority in Albany, he expressed a commitment to working across the aisle with Democrats to find common ground on public safety and criminal justice issues. "We will always work to find areas where we can have that common ground," Rolison stated after the meeting.

This session was the third in a series of meetings organized by the Republican committee, with previous gatherings held in Buffalo and Long Island. The discussions aim to ease the plight of crime victims by exploring solutions and support mechanisms. As Rolison continues his term, he remains focused on addressing the concerns of his constituents and improving the criminal justice system.
