The Greene County District Attorney's Office is starting the extradition process today (Monday, March 9) to bring Naveah Jackson, a 21-year-old from Catskill back to the area. Jackson was apprehended last week by federal agents in Florida. He was wanted in connection with a police chase that occurred in January when officers attempted to serve him with a warrant for weapons charges. The chase ended in New Paltz after Jackson's vehicle collided with three other cars, and he fled the scene.

According to the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, Jackson was captured in Pine Hills, Florida, after investigators determined he had fled the Hudson Valley. He was arrested without incident in an abandoned manufactured home.

Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione stated that Jackson waived extradition in Orange County, Florida, and is currently being held at the Orange County Sheriff's Office. The DA's office is making arrangements for a Catskill police officer, who is certified to transport prisoners by air, to fly to Florida to retrieve Jackson. Stanzione mentioned that the DA's office will cover the costs of the flight and aims to bring Jackson back by March 20.

Jackson faces charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony. Additional charges related to the January 30 high-speed chase may also be filed. The extradition process has been expedited since Jackson waived the need for a governor's warrant.

The high-speed chase began in Catskill and spanned 19 miles, ending in New Paltz. Police allege Jackson drove at high speeds, causing multiple collisions before abandoning his vehicle. No injuries were reported during the incident.
