The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District has announced that Daniel Kalbfliesh will become its new superintendent starting Tuesday (July 1). Kalbfliesh is currently serving as superintendent of the Green Island Union Free School District, located just outside Albany. He will take over leadership in Coxsackie, New York, from Patrick Darfler-Sweeney, who has been the interim superintendent since February following the retirement of longtime superintendent Randall Squier after nearly 15 years.
According to the Coxsackie-Athens Board of Education, Kalbfliesh brings a strong background in education leadership and a history of improving school district programs. The board stated, "Dr. Kalbfliesh brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our district. We are excited to work together to bring opportunities to our students and families." Kalbfliesh said, "I am honored to join the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District and grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. I look forward to meeting everyone, learning more about our schools and building meaningful relationships," as reported by NEWS10.
Kalbfliesh has been superintendent of Green Island since 2024 and previously served in roles such as assistant superintendent, director of special education, and principal. He will remain at Green Island until Monday (June 30), when a new interim superintendent will step in. Green Island officials said their teams are preparing for the transition to ensure daily operations continue smoothly.
The Coxsackie-Athens district says it looks forward to the leadership Kalbfliesh will bring as he guides the district into the future.
