The Columbia County Department of Health in Hudson is urging residents to remain vigilant against respiratory viruses, as cases of RSV, the flu, and COVID-19 continue to persist in several communities. The department recommends vaccination and good hygiene practices as the best ways to protect against these illnesses.

Vaccination remains a crucial defense against respiratory illnesses. The flu vaccine is updated annually to combat circulating strains, while COVID vaccines and boosters offer strong protection against severe illness and hospitalization. According to Priority Care Clinics, most people can safely receive both vaccines, which is especially important for those over 65, immunocompromised individuals, or those living with high-risk individuals.

The department also emphasizes the importance of simple hygiene habits, such as frequent hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, using alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap is unavailable, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. These actions help prevent the spread of viruses from surfaces to people.

The next immunization clinic in Columbia County is scheduled for Tuesday (April 7). Residents are encouraged to attend and stay updated on their vaccinations to help curb the spread of these viruses.
