A new report from the Center for an Urban Future highlights significant growth in the arts and culture sector within the Mid-Hudson Region. Between 2014 and 2024, employment in arts and culture jobs increased by 33.7%, adding 2,343 jobs to the region. This growth far exceeded the overall regional employment increase of 8.1% during the same period. Additionally, the number of resident artists rose by 11.5%, outpacing the general population growth.

The report underscores the arts as a key driver of economic growth in the Mid-Hudson Region, despite challenges such as declining public support and financial instability for artists. Similar trends have been observed in other regions, including Western New York and the North Country, where the arts have bolstered local economies by attracting new residents and visitors.

However, the momentum in these sectors faces potential risks due to federal funding cuts and insufficient state investment. The Center for an Urban Future, supported by grants from Creatives Rebuild New York, has published a series of reports, including "Western New York's Creative Spark" and "North Country's Creative Spark," detailing the challenges and opportunities within New York's creative economy.

The Mid-Hudson Region's growth in arts and culture employment highlights the sector's vital role in regional economic development. As the region continues to navigate financial challenges, the report suggests that strategic investments and policy support are crucial to sustaining this growth.
