An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Nicole Izabella Perez, a 29-year-old woman found dead in her Ellenville apartment. Michael David Carman, 28, was apprehended in Florida and extradited back to New York earlier this week. He is currently in custody and facing second-degree murder charges.
Perez was discovered on March 30 during a welfare check at her Clinton Avenue apartment, conducted by the Ellenville Police Department. Following the discovery, the case was classified as a homicide, and the New York State Police took over the investigation. Authorities identified Carman as a suspect and determined that he had fled to Florida.
With the assistance of the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, Carman was located and taken into custody. An arrest warrant was issued by Ulster County Court Judge Bryan E. Rounds, charging Carman with second-degree murder. On April 13, Carman was extradited back to New York and is currently being held in the Ulster County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday (April 17).
According to News 12, Perez and Carman were in a romantic relationship. The investigation into Perez's death is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the cause of death. Perez leaves behind two children, ages six and nine, who were with their father at the time of her death.
The Times Union reports that the Ulster County District Attorney's Office and multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation. As the case progresses, authorities continue to gather information to ensure justice is served.
